Support the implementation of
The NZ curriculum (2007) and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
Ka Hikitia 2008- 2012
Pasifika Education Plan 2008-2012
Collaborative service delivery across numerous providers that provides a continuum of support (driving whole school capability)
Goal A To conduct a needs analysis for this region- what is happening for GAT kids, teachers and parents
What is going on in other areas?
What is not going on that should be?
All schools in region have been contacted twice by email. More than 30 have responded with information – these have all been acknowledged. Next steps:
Individual phone calls to seek response
All schools, or at least all responding schools, should receive an account of what we have gained from the collective information taking into account Tracy’s two questions:
A)what schools have in place for gifted students B)what schools need in addition to this for effective Gifted Education
Pearl can phone the schools in Palmerston North. We need either a)funding to telephone schools in other areas or b)members of the group from these areas to phone schools in their area
This could be sorted via our Wiki once we feel we have sufficient information from schools.
A.S.A.P.
What percentage response would be considered adequate to see trends and make suggestions from? So far it is just greater than 10%
We have not addressed the needs analysis for parents or students as yet
What is happening for parents? There is no Explorer’s group i.e. Branch of NZAGC in the region There is an NZAGC on-line forum for parents but not specifically for this region. The TKI forum for teachers and professionals has more than 250 members and is obviously addressing a need – is there one for parents?
Contact Rose Blackett (President NZAGC) and discuss possibilities for groups etc. Ask Tracy Riley or Rosemary Cathcart to devise survey monkey to distribute to parents via schools or NZAGC or ask schools (who are VERY busy and may not appreciate more tasks!)
What is happening for students?
As an advisor I always gathered student (and often parent) voice – who is doing this now? Another survey monkey (Tracy/Rosemary?)to be administered by RTLBs perhaps?
Will each regions findings be shared? In this way we would be able to establish what is happening countrywide. The TKI forum has great potential but is not systematic enough currently to gain the above information efficiently.
